It’s a dog-eat-dog world!

I know what evil looks like…

The best way to spread news quickly is to mask it as a secret. That, dear readers, is human nature. We thrive on drama and create complications in our lives by getting involved in “the gossip game”. A recent conversation with someone prompted me to write this post.

Do you remember playing the whisper game as a child? Everyone sits down in a circle and the first person whispers something into the ear of the person beside them. This continues around the circle and the last person speaks out what they heard. To everyone’s amusement, the original statement has been distorted by the time it reaches the last person, giving the statement a whole new meaning.

Sadly, this isn’t amusing in real life. Reputations are damaged and relationships are compromised in real life. I think you can all attest to this. The question is: “Where do you draw the line?”  I believe in open communication.  If there’s a pink elephant in the room, don’t talk around it, talk about it.  What do you do when others choose to believe hearsay, put up a nice front, and talk behind your back? Ignore it. Difficult as it may be, ignore it.

If I had a dime for every experience in life I’d be a millionaire! And yet I learn every day. I recently had an epiphany about how easily HP and I have been misled in the past simply because we give others the benefit of the doubt. It’s all about perception. What one person perceives of your character, he relays to others in the circle and this is how reputation is formed (good or bad).

We can either live life worrying about what others think or knowing who we are.  HP, if you’re reading this, you have taught me to be a better person. You suffer the consequences of others actions because you are a good person. It doesn’t matter what others think as long as we know.

It’s a cruel world we live in… and “when in Rome…do as the Romans do…”

Lessons learned in 2011:

–          Trust no one.

–          Don’t chase. Be chased

–          Look out for yourself. Nobody else will.

–          Don’t regret the past. Focus on the future

–          Eat well. Feel well.

–          Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

–          Trust no one.

–          Control your attitude. Don’t let it control you.

–          The world owes me nothing.

–          My future is in my own hands (my beloved father’s words to me).

–          There are three sides to every story.

–          Vacations are essential to my well being.

–          Trust no one.
